“This event for me was the first I got to spend with other cancer families. I cried when I got home. For the first time in a long time I felt like others were looking at us with understanding and not sympathy. It was very fun for us. We are so truly grateful!!!”

“We love Cool Kids because they include siblings and families and they really take care of the teens. They have given us multiple outings. Just so nice to be able to go and do stuff as a family.”

About 1/3 of children treated for cancer are held back a year at school This is attributed to time lost from school and the effects of chemo and other treatments on the brain. Cool Kids recognized that parents had very few free options to address this challenge, so we partnered with Brain Bodega to deliver free personalized academic tutoring and mentorship. This service is provided to children currently undergoing treatment for cancer, and/or struggling with the latency effects of treatments. The program is focused on building students’ organizational skills and academic confidence while increasing engagement of students and parents, improving grades and test scores, and improving entire families’ relationships with learning. Our goal is to keep kids at their assigned grade level and help them see that learning can be fun instead of frustrating.
