The Mission of the Dan Jansen Foundation  is to solicit financial support and distribute funds to charitable causes, with the emphasis on helping families affected by cancer, which claimed the life of Dan’s sister, Jane.

Established in 1994, shortly after Dan’s remarkable Olympic Gold Medal performance in the 1,000-meter race in Lillehammer, Norway, the Dan Jansen Foundation has contributed over $1 million to charitable causes.

The Dan Jansen Foundation Jane Jansen Beres Family Aid Fund, created in memory of Dan’s sister who died from leukemia in 1988, has benefited more than 1,000 families affected by leukemia and related cancers.  Support is provided primarily for non-medical needs to help offset the cost for food, transportation, utility bills, rent, etc.  Grants are awarded based on economic need, family situation and special circumstances.  Assistance is available to all qualified patients and families without discrimination to age, race, color or creed.

The Dan Jansen Foundation supports youth sports programs, especially the sport of speedskating, and athletes striving to achieve their Olympic dreams.  Non-sports sports programs and projects dealing with core societal issues for disadvantage youths are also considered for support.  Grants are awarded to those who exemplify the Dan Jansen spirit toward life, education and overcoming adversity.
